Top 5 places 1 hour from Bonifacio

The micro-region of Sud-Corse allows you to radiate around Bonifacio and discover other landscapes and activities during your stay with us. Here’s a look at our five favorite places within a 1-hour drive of Bonifacio.

Porto-Vecchio

the other citadel

A stay in Bonifacio is always accompanied by a few return trips to Porto-Vecchio for some neighborhood sightseeing. The Porto-Vecchio citadel awaits you, proudly supported by the Bastion de France, whose terrace you can visit. Take a morning stroll through the narrow streets of the upper town. Take the opportunity to buy a few vacation souvenirs. Your steps will undoubtedly lead you to the authentic 16th-century church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. From the Genoese gateway, you can see the harbor below and the salt marshes. Here, you can go down for an ice cream, or sit on the terrace of one of the port’s many restaurants. Then take a moment to decide which beach to visit. Several of them are quite simply mythical.

Monacia d'Aullène

heritage village to discover

On the road to Ajaccio, around thirty minutes from Bonifacio, lies the village of Monacia d’Aullène. A pearl of granite, sheltered from the maquis, the village will seduce you with the authenticity of its buildings and its places of life: squares, church, cafés… While many signposted trails leave from Monacia, we advise you to start with the heritage trail. This varied, informative loop will help you understand the area’s agricultural past and take you past some beautiful mill remains. Another special feature of the trail is the presence of tafoni (granite rocks hollowed out by erosion) reminiscent of animal shapes and orii, tafoni built by shepherds to preserve crops, park animals or provide shelter. Monacia d’Aullène is also a must for hikers wishing to climb to the Uomo di Cagna, a balanced rock overlooking the far south.

Ospedale forest and lake

a taste of the mountains

This unspoilt archipelago is an environmental gem. An idyllic setting that will delight those in search of heavenly beaches, as well as snorkeling enthusiasts who will discover a rich seabed.

The Cavu, a playground for young and old

The Cavu is an emblematic river of the Sud-Corse region. A wild territory, its first particularity is the natural pools where you can cool off in summer. Pure creations of erosion, these turquoise pools will never cease to seduce you. But Cavu also owes its appeal to the forests and trails of the surrounding massif. Here you can enjoy mountain biking and tree climbing. Have a drink or lunch. Picnic. An ideal place for tribes to spend the day, mixing all rhythms and sensibilities.

The beaches of Pianottoli-Caldarello

This intensely colored beach not far fromIle Rousse is awe-inspiring for its diversity of landscapes, dense scrubland, the Agriates Desert and the Ostriconi river.
