Indian summer colors in Bonifacio

Autumn’s colors have inspired poets and singers alike, and with good reason: landscapes take on subtle hues and pretty gradations on land and sea. Enough to get the imagination going. In Corse-du-Sud and Bonifacio in particular, autumn is a way of prolonging summer: the sea is still there, the temperature is still mild, and the monuments are still standing proudly. The difference is that it’s less crowded, and therefore much more enjoyable and authentic.

Water colors

From turquoise to deep blue

Kayak, wingfoil, sailboat, scuba diving – water sports activities are still possible in autumn. Imagine gliding silently over the translucent waters of Piantarella. Your catamaran will take you to the extreme tip of Corsica and the beach of Saint-Antoine. Between two sunbathing breaks, you launch the paddle and paddle off, alone in the world. For a more temperate activity, coastal walks let you admire the 90 shades of the sea. Vertiginous cliff-top views from Campu Rumanilu and the Pertusatu trail. More impressionistic views from the Strada Vecia. Wild views from the Madonetta lighthouse.

Pumpkin color

Orange is on trend in autumn

It’s the color of Halloween pumpkins, but also of the walls of historic monuments at sunset. And why not celebrate this color by sipping a spritz overlooking the sea?

Bonifacio’s Halloween festivities attract many visitors for a tour of the town at dusk. You’re sure to get a fright all the way to the Bastion de l’Étendard, where you can get your face painted as a monster or get some scary candy. But the orange hue of a sunset at La Tonnara or on the Saint-François battery isn’t bad either. You can choose to do all this on the same day.

Unbeatable photo spotlight

All photographers will tell you: September and October are the best months to capture the light. Lovers of beautiful images or fans of Instagram, come and watch the sun set over Bonifacio’s western tip. The Saint-François fortifications are the ideal place to capture the magic of the end of the day.

Nature color

Green light for a breath of fresh air

In autumn, forget sunscreen and warm weather, and you can enjoy nature all day long in mild temperatures. It’s the perfect time to take a longer walk on Bonifacia’s footpaths. By the sea or in the maquis, for 30 minutes or 3 hours. Take a deep breath of green to regain your energy and enter winter in high spirits!

On the seaside, the Rondinara and Sperone trails are ideal for less athletic visitors. With their light vegetation, idyllic beaches and easy level of difficulty, there’s every reason to try these trails. And who knows? Once the body has recovered, some will opt for the Strada Vecia, a hike through forest and scrubland, along low walls of white stone typical of Bonifacio. At the finish line, the majestic red Madonetta lighthouse is the perfect spot for a lunch break and a series of photos of breathtaking limestone landscapes.

Budget accommodation

The post-season is also an opportunity to find accommodation in the heart of nuggets, at more affordable prices. Would you like to spend the night in a former convent in the quiet Bonifacian countryside? Does this old mill with a view of the cliffs and the Bonifacio Narrows appeal to you? It’s time to make a reservation in one of these luxurious accommodations. Intimate addresses for lovers with a penchant for atypical locations, hotels with gourmet restaurants, outside the town or in the heart of the citadel, the back-season offer has something for everyone.

Did you know?

Sciaccarellu is a black grape variety native to Corsica. Widespread in southern Corsica, it is cultivated in Bonifacio. This variety produces red and rosé wines. It is resistant to disease. It produces red wines with complex aromas of red fruits, spices, almonds, etc. It can be grown either as a single variety or blended with other varieties.

Tasting colors

Red, rosé, white

Bonifacio is also a land of wine. Three wineries operate in this area. Two of them offer tours of their wineries and cellars. They also offer tastings of the different vintages produced with respect for nature. Domaine Zuria welcomes you to the heart of its vineyards, in a sober setting of stone and wood. Visit a high-tech cellar, learn about the grape varieties and taste an intense organic wine. Domaine Buzzo, on the Sant’Amanza road, opens the doors to family know-how. From father to son, the estate is run smoothly. A biodynamic wine, emblematic of Bonifacio, Buzzo wine is explained to you from A to Z: relationship with nature, respect for the earth, tasting in the cellar. The experience is authentic, and it’s not uncommon after a tasting to want to buy a few bottles to take home in your luggage. Or look out for the names of these estates on the wine lists of local restaurants, which are sure to include them on their menus.
