Antò TOMASINI was born in Bastia at a time of hope, and grew up with a poet father. A citizen of the island of Beauty, he, like all islanders, has a passion for the history and landscapes of his island, which developed his artistic sensibility very early on and led him to want to express the emotions he drew from the rich and luminous scenery of the Mediterranean.

Trained as a draughtsman, he mixed technical and artistic drawing in an architect's office, and didn't start painting until he had finished his studies. From the outset, he found the pictorial gestures familiar and pleasant. He began by reproducing the paintings in the Musée Fesch in Ajaccio, then went on to capture the beauty of the landscapes around him in the manner of the Impressionists, until one day he found himself stuck in front of a canvas with pre-drawn outlines. It was only by destructuring the work that Antò succeeded in completing it. He then took a step forward and began a process of reflection that led him to devote himself exclusively to abstraction. A self-taught artist, he was able to freely express all the artistic brutality within him and make it palpable, particularly in his early works. Subsequently, his interest in art history, his collaboration with an essayist and his participation in conferences as a speaker have enriched his knowledge and shaped his artistic approach.

The artist now intellectualises his painting to a greater extent. His subjects are considered, studied and elaborated. Landscape and history", "Reflections on war", "The sources of the idea of war", "The history of war". In the Light of Time" - all themes and series of paintings with one thing in common: a reference to history and an appeal to memory. His works, painted in oils on canvas as well as on wood, paper or cardboard, always seek to express an emotion rather than to reproduce a likeness... For "Réflexion sur la guerre", for example, he carries out research, cross-referencing letters and soldiers' accounts in order to capture the atmosphere of the 1914-18 war. Antò TOMASINI's aim is to give us a wholehearted and deeply sincere vision of significant events or characters, with the aim of consolidating our projection into the future.
