On October 6, Bonifacio Town Hall will host the second edition of “Navigantes - la Nave dell'Identità”, a cultural event organized by the Maria Carta Foundation in partnership with the municipality of Santa Teresa di Gallura. The initiative aims to bring traditional music, song, dance and costume to places that share historical, geographical and cultural links with Sardinia.

The “Navigantes” ship symbolizes those who strive to preserve the most authentic traditions of Sardinian culture, in particular its rich ethno-musical heritage.

After a first edition in Barcelona in 2023, the Foundation hopes to repeat the event in 2024, this time crossing the Bouches de Bonifacio to reach its sister island, Corsica. The aim is to strengthen the bonds of fraternity and historical and cultural twinning between Sardinia and Corsica, by showcasing the popular traditions of both islands.

Here's the programme for this event, which will take place in the heart of the Pisan quarter of the citadel:

11am: A concert of Corsican and Sardinian polyphonic songs will be held in the church of Saint-Dominique.

12:30 pm: A Sardinian delegation of more than 150 musicians and artists in traditional costumes, particularly from Gallura, will parade to the rhythm of typical instruments, polyphonic songs and dances. They will be joined by Corsican representatives, including the Canti d'Aiacciu group, with their traditional songs and costumes. Together, the participants will gather for a festive parade through the streets of the Haute-Ville, where the songs, dances and costumes of both islands will resound.

1:30 pm: After the parade, a moment of conviviality will take place under the Loggia de l'Arsenal. Participants and members of the public will be able to sample local products from both islands.

This event is part of a rapprochement between Corsica and Sardinia, promoted by Bonifacio, the communes of the far south, and the Collectivité de Corse. The bonds of friendship between these two islands are forged through joint projects, cultural and economic exchanges, and cooperative initiatives. From a social and economic point of view, this type of event helps to strengthen future collaborations, promoting inter-island tourism and partnerships.

The aim is also to celebrate the meeting of cultures, highlighting the many convergences and affinities (languages, songs, traditions, local products).

We invite you to come and discover this event, and to take part in the moments of exchange, sharing and conviviality!
