This colourful comedy features Cigalon, a talented but irascible chef who stubbornly refuses to serve customers in his own restaurant. Why does he refuse? Because he deems them unworthy of tasting his cuisine, which he believes is reserved for true gourmets.
Inspired by a real-life character, the owner of a restaurant in La Treille (in Provence), this play embodies all of Pagnol's charm and humour. The text, sunny and full of verve, alternates tasty lines and verbal jousting in an atmosphere that is both comic and poetic.
Although the film Cigalon, released in 1936, received a lukewarm reception, the play has been a constant success at the theatre ever since, winning over audiences with its lively tone, colourful characters and mischievous take on a passion for gastronomy.
The I Chjachjaroni troupe invites audiences to (re)discover this little-known nugget by the great Marcel Pagnol, a veritable ode to restaurateurs and the art of good living!
