Water sports in a protected lagoon

Piantarella Beach

Piantarella is undoubtedly Bonifacio’s sportiest beach, where you can enjoy all kinds of water sports while taking in a breathtaking panorama of the island of Lavezzu. You can also visit the cove by boat, take a stroll to nearby Sperone beach or simply relax in the sun… Relaxation guaranteed!

Thrills and spills!

Piantarella is the beach for thrill-seekers par excellence. A small lagoon full of shades of blue, where the wind plays with the sea and promises great sensations for those who love wing foil or kitesurfing. You can also go sea kayaking or snorkeling to admire the incredible seabed in the heart of the Bouches de Bonifacio Nature Reserve… And all this whether you’re a real amateur or a complete beginner. Impossible to get bored, I promise!

From Piantarella, you can board a submarine to observe the seabed, or take a half-day or full-day tour of the entire Lavezzi archipelago. This area is a paradise!

“Sometimes the posidonia will welcome you to Piantarella. Don’t panic: the beach isn’t dirty – on the contrary! Posidonia are a sign of good health, and it’s forbidden to remove them: the wind and currents take care of it.”

A stroll on the beach

From Piantarella to Sperone

When you’re in Piantarella, nature surrounds you. To find a secluded spot to put your towel down, you’ll pass by the rocks and look out over the sea from a host of different vantage points. You’ll walk along the eponymous pond, where you may be lucky enough to spot some birds. Not to be disturbed, of course!

If you go further, you’ll pass ruins dating back to Roman times. It’s impossible to get too close, but you’ll certainly be able to spot a few remains. Before you know it, you’ll arrive at Petit Sperone, a cove with crystal-clear waters and incredibly white sand, set in a green setting where all you can hear is the sound of children playing. You can continue your exploration to reach the large Sperone after around 40 minutes. The walk itself is well worth the effort. As for the beach…

Piantarella was already occupied in Roman times, and lay in the middle of an important ancient trade route linking Italy and Spain. The remains of a large Roman villa are still present and protected for their immense heritage value. However, they are somewhat sheltered from prying eyes as they are located on private land.

Wild beauty

Piantarella is the ideal starting point for approaching the island of Piana, which you can easily see from the beach. You can follow the sandbar on foot or hire a sea kayak for an equally breathtaking and environmentally-friendly experience. And when you put on your mask and snorkel, the crystal-clear seabed opens up before you, as if you were in a giant aquarium. Please note that many birds nest on the island of Piana, so disembarking is strongly discouraged and totally forbidden from December 15 to April 15.

At Piantarella, you’re guaranteed a change of scenery: the color of the water is unbelievably clear, and the seabed reveals rare species of flora and fauna… A little paradise in itself.

A feeling of being at the end of the world

If you’re looking for the feeling of being at the end of the world, Piantarella is the ideal beach. Its colors are reminiscent of the Seychelles, the wind makes it look like the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, and its seabed is a delight for lovers of strange-looking fish. It’s an invitation to discover and respect an environment whose beauty amazes even those who’ve known this beach and its surroundings all their lives.
