Sperone Beach

Sperone are two famous beaches, with ultra-fine sand and crystal-clear waters that deserve every description. Quite busy in July and August… they remain one of Bonifacio’s jewels in the early and late seasons. These are the beaches known as “Petit Sperone” and “Grand Sperone”. You reach them by continuing along the path, after crossing the Piantarella beach. They are well worth the short walk. You’ll find bright white sand.

Beach of
petit Sperone

Le petit Sperone is a magnificent setting among the rocks, facing the island of Piana. What makes this beach so special and original is that when you arrive on the path, you don’t know what to expect until the very last moment. And it’s true that emotions run high when you arrive at this immaculately white cove…. which can be completely empty in the early morning or in low season. An unmistakable air of being at the end of the world. Seen from the sea, this beach has everything to seduce: it’s close to the Piantarella lagoon, out of sight, in a dream setting – how can you resist?

“Many emotions overwhelm us when we come upon this immaculate white cove”.

Grand Sperone Beach

Just a 15-minute walk from the beach of little Sperone is its big sister. Here, you can literally feel the same emotions, but in a “big” way. Bounded by glowing rocks, the beach at Grand Sperone combines a wild environment with a soothing landscape. It has to be earned a little, but the path to get there is well worth the detour too: you’ll pass under the pine trees where, in summer, a cool stopover is a must, with views over the different spots on the Sperone green, different vantage points over the Lavezzi and Sardinia, which seems almost swimmable.

These beaches are an integral part of the Bouches de Bonifacio Nature Reserve. Don’t forget to read and respect the rules posted on the signs. You’ll find garbage cans on the Grand Sperone beach, but if you can’t find them, keep all your garbage with you.

How about the coast?

Rather than anchoring by boat around the Lavezzi archipelago, we prefer to walk for a few minutes before spreading our towel in the early morning or at the end of the day on one of these two beaches. A new attitude that allows the seabed to rest from the many anchors that are dropped in these waters during the summer months. For a view and access to the water that’s just as impressive, but more “slow”. Just think about it.

Two beaches, two privileged views of the Lavezzi and Sardinia.

The pluses and minuses

On the plus side, the beaches of Petit and Grand Sperone are free of seagrass, which also explains the beauty shock you should be prepared for before trying them out.

On the minus side (relative): avoid these beaches if the wind is easterly, as the sand is so fine that it will blow in absolutely everywhere. You’ve been warned!
