The site includes the limestone cliffs framing the Upper Town and the Bonifacio Narrows. The cliffs are highest to the east, from Campu Romanillu to Pertusatu. The dry, windy environment is home to low, often thorny vegetation. To the west, the Strada Vecia path winds its way between high walls under a canopy of thick maquis. Dry-stone barracun mark this landscape of ancient gardens. Sea caves open up at the base of the cliffs. The entrance to the Fazziò cove is hidden by two islets. At the end of the deep Paragan cove, limestone gives way to granite.

The cliff paths
For an hour or a little more, take advantage of the proximity of these trails to the Upper Town to combine a visit to the citadel with a great bowl of fresh air and a panoramic view of the Bonifacio Nature Reserve. Take a step back from the upper town by walking for an hour or three in the heart of Bonifacio’s cliffs and discover the citadel in its white rock setting.
Change your point of view!
The cliffs can be explored from the sea. It’s a completely complementary experience to the perched trails. Even by boat, kayak or paddle, you’ll be gripped by the vertigo of the cliffs above you.
