CONCERT POLYPHONIQUE IN CANTU

In Cantu is a vocal ensemble dedicated primarily to Corsican polyphony. The group brings together artists from both prestigious Corsican ensembles (such as Canta u Populu Corsu and Caramusa) and the world of opera, united by a desire to return to the roots of polyphonic singing – unadorned and authentic. In Cantu aims to act as a bridge in passing on the polyphonic tradition to the island’s public, whilst also bearing witness to the vitality of Corsican culture for audiences from other parts of the world. Its repertoire consists exclusively of a cappella songs and includes both sacred pieces (Masses from Sermanu, Rusiu, Sartè, etc.) as secular pieces (paghjelle, madrigali, terzetti, etc.), as well as the group’s own compositions, in a programme that alternates between very ancient melodies drawn from a centuries-old tradition and contemporary works.
