Description

Born in Senegal in 1951, Paule Dumon spent part of her childhood between Corsica and Africa. She moved to Paris in 1969 to study medicine, before practising as a general practitioner in the Oise region for 37 years. A lifelong art enthusiast, she practised drawing and painting as a self-taught artist, before later turning to direct-cut stone sculpture, a discipline she has now been exploring for a dozen years. Through her work, she highlights the diversity of stone: its textures, ranging from rough to very smooth, its different hardnesses and its chromatic richness. She uses materials such as steatite, selenite, alabaster, marble and granite. Each stone, with its shape, volume and distinctive features, inspires and guides the creative process. The technique of direct cutting is central to his approach. Starting with a rough block, she gradually draws, sculpts and reveals shapes, silhouettes, faces or animals, playing on the contrasts between raw materials and polished surfaces. The finishing touches bring out all the natural beauty of the stone. In her sculptures, Paule Dumon seeks to express movement, emotion and sensitivity, creating works that are pure and full of life. Each piece, fashioned from a unique stone with all its nuances and irregularities, becomes an original and singular creation. Practical information: - Free admission - Free admission
