Festi Lumi, the Corsican Festival of Lights

Ajouter aux favoris

Festi Lumi marks the start of the peak season – three evenings that locals look forward to just as much as visitors do. It’s fair to say that the show never fails to deliver and knows how to captivate young and old alike with its dreamlike, unique light displays, which are refreshed every year. Large-scale video projections, more intimate installations and interactive elements are the key ingredients of these evenings, which combine the magic of light with street performances. Definitely not to be missed!

Heritage in the Spotlight

Bonifacio at its finest

We all have the monuments of Bonifacio in mind: the Bastion de l’Étendard, the Torrione, the churches… A heritage that Festi Lumi showcases in an original way, allowing us to see these stones and buildings in a new light – structures we sometimes pass by without really noticing them, without fully appreciating what they represent. The way they’re illuminated is particularly poetic thanks to the images it conjures up, and this is combined with music to create a somewhat transcendent, magical effect. Festi Lumi features spectacular projections as well as intimate, almost mystical displays. Everyone, young and old alike, can project whatever they wish into their imagination. Perhaps that is the real magic.

Choosing your starting point

The waterfront or the upper town – the choice is yours!

Whether you choose to start at the Marina or in the Citadel, the views offered by Festi Lumi will always be different. And it’s not uncommon to come across enthusiasts who, on each of the three evenings, wander through the city’s streets, choosing a new starting point each time. One of the most spectacular vantage points is at Campu Rumanilu. From the limestone steps, perched on a low wall as the sun sets, you’ll see the citadel gradually light up. If you’d like to start in the Pisan quarter, wait until it’s pitch black before heading into the Upper Town. And if you’ve got a soft spot for the Marina, take a leisurely stroll up the Rastello. Every stroll promises to be unique, revealing details you may have missed before.

The Pisan neighbourhood in a new light

You’ll know the Pisan neighbourhood for its Torrione, its Espace Saint-Jacques, its schools… Imagine the whole area transforming into a vast stage showcasing paintings and prints. As night falls, the neighbourhood is almost unrecognisable, transforming to transport visitors to another world.

To surprise the visitor

The ‘wow’ factor

The beauty of Festi Lumi is that it reinvents itself every year. Even if some artists return, it will always be with a different concept, a different set design and a different atmosphere. You can’t say you’ve already seen Festi Lumi – the event is constantly changing! And this is just as true if you choose to visit on all three evenings: you’ll soon realise there are details you’ve missed, and atmospheres that vary depending on the time of the evening – in short, you’ll be constantly surprised! This element of surprise is one of the key features of Festi Lumi, creating that ‘wow’ factor which so impresses and leaves such a lasting impression on visitors. You’ll be spellbound by the visuals, the music that sometimes accompanies the installations or, conversely, the profound silence that may reign – much like being inside a church, with an added touch of mysticism.

A journey into the heart of the passion for Corsican football

Every year, Festi Lumi shines a light on a unique aspect of Bonifacio’s and Corsica’s identity. For this 11th edition, the festival explores a theme deeply rooted in the collective memory: Corsican football.

Much more than just a sport, it is a true common language that spans generations, brings villages together, sets towns alight and nourishes the memories of thousands of residents. From neighbourhood pitches to grand European adventures, it tells stories of tradition, popular fervour and shared identity.

Through monumental screenings, immersive installations and participatory works, the invited artists revisit this heritage, which has been part of the Corsican landscape for over a century. Archival footage, personal accounts, supporters’ chants, stadium sounds, childhood memories and local tales intertwine with light to bring to life a living memory that is both intimate and universal.

From the Marinae to the Upper Town, the route takes visitors on a stroll where heritage, emotion and contemporary art come together. Façades tell stories, squares come to life, churches are transformed, and everyone is invited to become part of this artistic experience.

From 2 to 4 July 2026, Festi Lumi invites you to rediscover Bonifacio through what has brought Corsicans together for generations: moments of shared experience in a village square, in the stands of a stadium or as you turn a corner in an alleyway transformed by light.

A popular festival

Some practical information

As Festi Lumi is, above all, a popular event open to everyone, entry to the festival is completely free and can take place at any time between nightfall and 1 am.
To make your visit easier – and to avoid spending hours looking for a parking space – parking has been specially organised for the event, offering visitors the option of paying a flat rate of €8 from 6 pm to midnight at car parks P1 (Marine) and P5 (Saint-François cemetery). You can also choose the Valli car park for €10 covering the day and evening, and take advantage of a free shuttle bus to the Marine, from where the little train will take visitors up to the Upper Town from 8 pm.

Are you worried about getting lost in the maze of Bonifacio’s narrow streets?

Don’t panic: like a ‘modern-day Tom Thumb’, a poetic trail of light will wind its way along the cobblestones, walls and staircases to guide you from one installation to the next. Lasers will guide you from one point to another, further enhancing the dreamlike atmosphere of Festi Lumi.

Believing in the magical

Visiting Bonifacio after dark is an experience in itself. Add Festi Lumi to the mix and you’ll discover the town in a completely different light, from a whole new perspective. Monuments bathed in magical light, walls that seem to speak to you, narrow streets that take on a whole new hue… You’ll leave with your head full of images, feeling as though you’ve been living in a dream for a few hours. Festi Lumi is a journey into dreamlike art, into the depths of everyone’s imagination – the kind that makes you believe in the marvellous.
