Bonifacio boasts a remarkably rich heritage, shaped by its history, geology and location at the heart of the Mediterranean. In Bonifacio, to preserve its unique environment whilst building its future, the local council is committed to an exemplary energy transition.
Installing solar panels on a listed site requires compliance with two key requirements: the installations must be either invisible or perfectly integrated, whether viewed from higher ground (Upper Town, ramparts) or from the sea (coastline, boats).
To minimise their impact on the environment and the landscape as much as possible, the installations are fitted to existing public infrastructure:
• Already in place / Underway ➔ padelcourts , technical centre, water treatment plant.
• Coming soon ➔ sports hall (COSEC) and car park shade structures.

To preserve its unique landscapes and ensure drinking water for everyone, the local council and its partners are committed to this cause on a daily basis.
• Modern infrastructure: a new drinking water production plant, a new wastewater treatment works and the ongoing modernisation of the networks.
• Innovation & recycling: expansion of the reuse of treated wastewater (REUT), protection of water catchments, and strengthening of fire safety measures.
• Wastewater reuse project: following the irrigation of the Sperone Golf Course, the city plans to save nearly 158,000 m³ of drinking water in the long term by reusing treated wastewater for public watering, cleaning and agriculture.
• Rigorous monitoring: water reserves are constantly monitored to ensure a continuous and secure supply.
