Description

Suarina is a musical group founded on a friendship between young women who are passionate about music and singing. As cultural activists, they champion their language and culture. Former students at the University of Corsica, they met during musical exchange sessions at the University Cultural Centre. The musical world born of this female-led collaboration invites listeners on an inner journey that is both individual and collective, where the key word is ‘harmony’... It thus explores the notion of balance – of the self, of the other and, consequently, of the whole. It is thanks to the balance of each element of which it is composed that the structure is solid. Harmony is the driving force here; it is harmony that governs the balance between space and time, nature and the animal realm, the collective and the individual, body and mind... Suarina thus sets out on a quest for individual and collective harmony, on every level: musical, human, societal, utopian… Beginning with an attempt to harmonise voices and instruments, inspired by the traditional technique of Corsican polyphonic singing, the journey continues with the interweaving of diverse horizons and influences, illustrating an unwavering friendship and sisterhood . From this diversity springs a sense of complementarity and a resolutely modern sound. Following an initial period of covers and adaptations of traditional songs, the group Suarina is now focused on original compositions. Indeed, renowned songwriters such as Alain Di Meglio, Patrizia Gattaceca, Ceccè Lanfranchi, Ghjuvan Federiccu Terrazzoni and Nicolas Sorba have entrusted several songs to the all-female group. Suarina also had the pleasure of taking part in the Corsu Mezu Mezu project, initiated by Patrick Fiori, performing ‘Corsica Meia’ as a duet with Nolwenn Leroy on the re-release of the second album.
